From 1 August, Weight Watchers (WW) will be delivering the National Diabetes Prevention Programme (NDPP), known as Healthier You, across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
WW will be the sole provider for the NDPP programme, which will be available free to people who meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Is 18 or older (no upper limit).
- Is not pregnant.
- Has non-diabetic hyperglycaemia (NDH) identified by blood test within the past 12 months.
- Does not have blood results suggesting Type 2 diabetes.
Non-Diabetic Hyperglycaemia (NDH) is the new term for ‘prediabetes’.
The Healthier You DPP will deliver a face-to-face and digital service that enables people to engage in 13 core curriculum themes, personalised to them, with each and every touch point being tailored to non-diabetic hyperglycaemia (NDH) and the benefits of risk reduction of Type 2 diabetes.
Anyone referred to the programme will be offered the opportunity to attend 36 weekly sessions of WW workshops within a nine-month period, plus full access to all their digital tools, including a curriculum proven to reduce the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, one-to-one support, access to recipes, 24/7 online chat, and community groups dedicated to the prevention of Type 2 diabetes. Referrals can be made by GPs.
Weight Watchers haven’t announced this publicly yet, but there is info on their website about a pilot study of this programme they carried out in Bromley, London, which had good results.
