There is a new Community Fridge in Liskeard!
Their Facebook page explains:
What is a Community Fridge? Community fridges are innovative spaces where good food, that would otherwise be wasted, can be shared with the local community. So far community fridges have helped thousands connect to their communities, access nutritious food, save money and reduce waste.
Who can use it?
You, the community. The Community Fridge is free of use, every person can use it, access nutritious food, save money & reduce food waste. We promote a sharing is caring policy & ask you only take what you need, being mindful of all in your community.
‘The average UK family wastes £470 a year by throwing away food and drink which could have been eaten, and £3 billion is wasted by food sectors. Despite growing awareness of food waste, there are few easy ways for people or businesses to get food near its ‘sell by’ date to others..’ (according to research by Bosch.)
Community Treasure Chest CIC & Lighthouse Community Centre CIC have joined forces to provide a way to tackle food waste locally. Working in Partnership with the local Coop, Morrison’s, Cornwall Food Action we are now able to provide Liskeard & the surrounding areas a Community Fridge & Freezer.
