Cornwall VSF is proud of its team. We are here to help you to help others.
Helen Boardman – CEO
Helen has been the CEO of Cornwall VSF since March 2020. Just as the UK felt the impacts of the pandemic, Helen took up this role. Her empathic ‘out of the box’ thinking empowers teams, individuals and organisations to make a difference. Her strategic leadership has seen the introduction of an alliance based model. This means the sector is working together to share information, skills and people to build a more resilient Cornwall. A true advocate for organisations in the sector, Helen is a firm believer in equality and ‘finding the gold’ in everyone. Her warmth, creativity and commitment have built productive and strategic relationships.
When she’s not at work, Helen can be found on the beach with her dog Rosie, throwing sticks and gathering shells.
Sarah Phillips – Public Health Engagement Officer
Sarah Phillips is the Community Engagement Officer for Cornwall VSF. With a wealth of experience in closing the health equalities gap, Sarah is a passionate advocate of linking health to other social factors. Her personal interests are in nutrition and mental wellbeing, factors which are exacerbated by the impact of the pandemic. Sarah supports the sector by contributing her strategic thinking to several health inequalities boards and working with vulnerable populations.
In her free time, Sarah enjoys yoga and walking or tending to her veg patch!
Ellen Rudge – Public Health Communications Officer
Ellen has ten years of marketing experience under her belt and forms half of the communications team. Aside from working with Sarah to support the sector with COVID response and recovery, other key projects Ellen has worked on include launching the Charity Search Tool and attending site visits to create video case studies. The communications team is working on improving the membership offer, refreshing the branding and the user experience of the website.
A keen surfer and volunteer, Ellen spends a lot of her spare time by the water.
Laura Barnes – Communications, Marketing and PR Officer
Laura has worked in marketing in Cornwall for eight years, following teaching English overseas. Inspired by the collaboration of Cornwall’s voluntary sector and the power of its communities in the response to Covid, Laura was keen to bring her skills to VSF. She is working on developing member benefits and communications, marketing and PR campaigns to support the membership and the charity as a whole. She is leading on the Co-creating Cornwall’s Future event and is excited by sharing its impact.
Laura lives in Falmouth where she can be found cleaning beaches and other community projects, or swimming.
Shanice Morrison – Administration & Finance Officer
Shanice has worked in local government and administration for several years and is often the first point of contact for members, trustees and other stakeholders. Her meticulous attention to detail and organised, professional manner means she keeps the team in order! With expertise in engaging stakeholders across a variety of channels and creating effective and diplomatic messaging, Shanice contributes to our work developing our membership offer.
Out of office hours, Shanice is enjoys sports, yoga and walking on the beaches with her dogs.
Amber Davies – Youth Engagement Officer
Amber is our Youth Engagement Officer, who still works with young people in the days not at VSF. Amber leads on the Youth Alliance, where she facilitates collaborative working methodologies. Her valuable contributions make sure the youth voice is considered, captured and reflected in communications.
Amber said, “In my time away from work, I like to go wild camping, go on walks with my dog Patch, paddleboard and undertake photography, especially with my drone. I am often found outside in the sun, keeping busy.”
