The Charity Governance Code has recently been updated, to include a new principle on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
The Code is a simple tool for charity trustee boards to ensure their governance structures are fit for purpose. That means they are focused on achieving the charity’s aims, so they can use resources effectively, comply with relevant legislation and – ultimately – continue to serve their beneficiaries.
The events of 2020, both the pandemic and the rise to prominence of the Black Lives Matter movement, have fed into a re-write by the steering committee, taking into account feedback from over 800 organisations and individuals who took part in a consultation.
You can read all the details of the Code on the Charity Governance website.
Civil Society Media has also produced an interesting article about what the changes are, and why they matter.
