Young people in Cornwall have a unique chance to learn how democracy works when they take over the Council Chamber at County Hall on Monday 8 November.
The chamber will be arranged just like a real council session, but with young people rather than councillors debating issues including the environment, transport and leisure and sports facilities.
Organised by Cornwall Rural Community Council, the event runs from 10am to 12pm and is open to anyone between 10 and 18 years. School groups, young carers, youth forums and other groups of young people are all encouraged to attend.
As well as giving young people a chance to debate important issues, they will also get a hands-on introduction to democratic systems and decision-making. This includes learning about other influential people, such as MPs and Council Managers, for an insight into how the country really works.
There are still places available, so if you or anyone you know would like to get involved, contact Marita Ward on 01872 273952 or marita.ward@cornwallrcc.org.uk.
The event is funded by Take Part Cornwall, and takes place during Youth Takeover Week, which takes place year from 5 – 12 November and culminates in ’11 Million Youth Takeover Day’ on Friday 12 November.
