Active Plus are now able to provide 1-2-1 veteran-specific support through their Positive People project.
The Positive People project is a six-session group course delivered by wounded, injured and sick military veterans, aimed at increasing confidence, motivation, self-esteem and improving communication skills and developing an understanding of working in a team. By helping others, the veterans help themselves and as role models they are a powerful force for change.
Courses are adapted to suit specific attendees’ needs and include specialist information sessions e.g. interview techniques, budgeting, first aid, wellbeing etc.
Other aspects include;
- first aid awareness
- condition management
- raising awareness of volunteering/ local opportunities
- employment skills
- body language
- first impressions
- interview techniques.
Active Plus is unique in that both staff and service users are benefiting from the courses and activities, with injured ex-armed forces instructors being given the opportunity to help themselves by helping others, as they progress on their own journeys and through the transition to civilian life. They empathise, inspire and become role models for participants of all ages. Together, positive outcomes are achieved for all.
