Take Part Cornwall is rolling out a series of free How To guides and other publications designed to stimulate interest in volunteering and community action in Cornwall.

Produced by Cornwall VSF, the How To Guides are colourful and easy to understand introductions to getting active in the community. Some are about traditional volunteering roles, including becoming a Charity Trustee or Magistrate, while others in the pipeline will tackle broader subjects, such as making freedom of information requests and campaigning about local issues on the internet.

The project aims to get people taking part in new and exciting ways. For example, Devon & Cornwall Police Authority is seeking to attract a more diverse range of volunteers, and has worked closely with Take Part Cornwall to produce How To guides on becoming an Independent Custody Visitor and Independent Member of the Police Authority.

The How To Guides will be distributed from August, with a second wave available in the autumn. Pdf versions of the guides are also available below: -

1 How to ensure the welfare of people in police custody

2 How to become a Charity Trustee

3 How to help run your local school

4 How to become a Magistrate

5 How to influence policing in your area

Also look out for Take Part leaflets, which give interested volunteers the opportunity to send off for free information about different ways to get involved. If you are a public-facing organisation and would like to stock How To guides and other Take Part publications, please contact John Holmes at Cornwall VSF on 01872 241584 or john.holmes@cornwallvsf.org.
