VCS partners in Cornwall have been successful with a bid to People’s Millions and have been short-listed to take part in the live Regional TV vote!! Fantastic news for the sector and for Cornwall in general. The project is a partnership of Re:Source, SOFA and GOFA and will offer homeless people Starter Packs of household goods to get them into permanent accommodation, in return, it will be looking to encourage the beneficiaries to volunteer for their organisations, this will hopefully lead to training and potentially employment which could end the homelessness cycle. On Wednesday 26th November Starting Out will be in the vote against a project from Plymouth. VOTE by phoning 0871 626 8164.
Other Cornish People’s Millions projects:
On Monday 24th November St Merryn Climate Friendly Parish’s St Merryn Community Gardens project goes head to head with a project from Cullumpton. The St Merryn project would create a community garden with a pond and allotment where people can grow their own fresh fruit and vegetables. The area would also include a communal shed and shelter, as well as tools that are available for everyone to use. Call 0871 626 8162 to vote for St Merryn.
And on Tuesday 25th the Camborne Town Band Bandroom project by Society will be competing against a project in South Molton. The Camborne project would involve the Music Society giving their wooden bandroom a much-needed makeover as the facility is 80 years old and in need of repair. The renovations would include installing a new ceiling and new toilets and enabling disabled access.
On Thursday 27 November, the Bryher Community Centre project on the Isles of Scilly will battle it out with a Somerset project. The Bryher project would see the island of Bryher’s only community venue being fitted out with a range of new facilities including a kitchen and washroom, computers and games equipment. This would enable the newly built centre to provide recreational facilities for the whole community and be used for activities such as social events, meetings, indoor games, training courses and doctor’s consultations.
