On 7th & 8th December 2011, Ofsted visited Cornwall Council Children’s Services as part of their annual unannounced inspection of contact, referral and assessment within Cornwall Council children’s services.

This letter, dated 10th January 2012 and address to Mr Trevor Doughty (Corporate Director – Children, Schools and Families) summarises the findings.

Mr Doughty said,

‘I am pleased to say it is a very positive report which reflects the hard work everybody has contributed as part of our improvement journey.  I am delighted that Ofsted have recognised our efforts but more to the point that they believe that children are better safeguarded in Cornwall.  Of course, we have much more to do in order to make all of our services outstanding but this is the first time in many years that progress in Cornwall in safeguarding has had a positive endorsement.’
