Local Safeguarding Children Board

The Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) is the statutory body responsible for protecting children and young people from significant harm and for promoting their welfare. It agrees how local services and professionals working with children should co-operate to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.

Voluntary sector representatives sit on a number of boards under the LSCB: -

  • Executive group – Steve Clark (CN4C)
  • Serious Case Review Group – Jo Davies (Wild Young Parents) and Beccie Mannall (Barnardos)
  • Policy Development & Integration Group – Mari Eggins (Carefree Cornwall)
  • Quality Assurance & Audit Group – Nigel Cox (Barnardos)
  • Community Safeguarding Group – Brian Smith (Volunteer Cornwall)

Changes to LSCB Safeguarding training offer

Changes to LSCB Safeguarding training offer, post October 2012.

In light of recent and ongoing changes to Local Authority service provision the Cornwall Isles of Scilly Safeguarding Children Board (CIoS SCB) have agreed to move towards a commissioned model of delivery for multi-agency Safeguarding Training.

The existing CIoS SCB training offer (details available here) will continued to be offered until 31st October 2012.

Those interested in accessing CIoS SCB Safeguarding Training  are asked to continue to liaise with:

Evaluation of Cornwall Common Assessment Framework

Cornwall’s Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) is carrying out an evaluation of the Cornwall CAF (Common Assessment Framework) process.

This evaluation is taking place because both the LSCB and Cornwall Council are aware that whilst vital and life changing work is being done, there are improvements that can be made and it is through your input that they can best identify what can be done to make these improvements.

In particular, they are very keen to hear from the voluntary sector who are often not represented in these kinds of research.

Meeting notes from Serious Case Review Group meeting

Meeting date: 27 March 2012

Most important issue discussed: The SCR workplan and the dissemination of learning from the SCIE (Social Care Institute for Excellence) was the focus of the non-confidential section of the meeting. The rest of the meeting was confidential.

New issues arising: Jo Davies is now the VCS lead representative, with Beccie Mannell as deputy.

How they rate input: Very Effective

 

The Safeguarding Adults Serious Case Review Sub Group advises the Safeguarding Adults Board on processes, procedures and outcomes in relation to conducting serious case reviews under the Safeguarding Adults Board guidance for conducting serious case reviews.
