The Powerhouse Project, run by Citizens Advice Cornwall, will work with young people who are not in education, employment or training, or young people leaving care, to raise awareness about the importance of being in control of their energy use and energy spending.

It will initially run over two years and the team’s aim is to work with their clients to build their home energy management skills. They will provide energy saving advice, help with choosing the best tariff for them and arranging access to benefits that can help with paying their fuel bills.

Wherever possible, the team will also advise about and arrange access to grants for insulation and heating improvements that clients may be eligible for.

In addition, they are looking to appoint 10 Energy Champions – young people who are interested in responsible energy use and tackling climate change, who are willing to work with their peers to extend the impact of our project beyond its initial term.

The project organisers have selected this particular group to focus on because they believe that this group has a significant need for the skills Powerhouse is promoting. Working with such a young client base will hopefully mean that they are able to intervene before clients’ issues have become chronic or ingrained. Their aim is to prevent fuel poverty, rather than having to deal with the consequences of it.

Powerhouse will run group workshops (4-5 per group) and 1:1 sessions, whichever is more convenient. They will tailor sessions to match the needs of their audience and can provide them face-to-face (subject to the COVID restrictions being lifted), online – using Microsoft Teams, over-the-phone or via any other method you might propose – we are completely flexible.

The Powerhouse team believes that the skills, knowledge and opportunities which their project can deliver to these young people can be of great practical benefit to them, and are offering info sessions to discuss the needs of organisations’ clients, and how Powerhouse can help.

Please use the below poster, leaflet and referral form to find out more about Powerhouse, and introduce clients to them.
