Cornwall Deaf Community Centre invites everyone to their Open Day on Thursday 21 March from 10am to 3pm.
Cornwall Deaf Centre has been open for 30 years and is based in Camborne. The Centre supports deaf/hard of hearing adults, children and their families. We have a dedicated Committee and Members who work hard to ensure the Centre remains open. We are the only Centre in Cornwall.
The Centre not only has a long history, but provides a vital support network for our Members and their families from across Cornwall. It is a place where the deaf community regularly congregate and socialise. Many of our members use British Sign Language and are often isolated in their homes or within the community due to language barriers. The Centre offers them a place where they are free to communicate with other deaf people using British Sign Language.
The Centre provides information not always readily available to the deaf community, such as health matters, Police, Fire Service and other important information. To give this information we need to provide Interpreters who ensure the information given is understood and questions asked and answered. Some of our fundraising is to pay for the interpreters, who are essential to our members, but which is a cost that no other voluntary group incurs.
The Centre offers a Youth Group, Children & Family Group, Lunch & Evening meals on a monthly basis, Deaf Church, social activities for all ages, Sign Language courses, deaf awareness training and outdoor activities. All of these events also help the Centre raise the funds needed to remain open.
We would be delighted if you were to attend our Open Day and get to meet some of our members and see the work we do. Refreshments will be provided together with in house Interpreters who will support your communicating with the deaf community.
