Local writer and artist Felicity Tattersall, is working with the Royal Cornwall Museum to run a community creative writing project online during January and February 2021. This project has been generously funded by FEAST.
‘Magical Realism in the Museum’ is a series of creative writing workshops (aimed at adults or young people over 16), which has been broken down into bite size chunks and will be offered though the project’s brand new Facebook page. It is completely free, and aimed at anyone who has been affected by the pandemic and who would like to learn or develop new creative writing skills.
The workshops will be aimed at complete beginners, and organisers would particularly welcome participants who have never visited the museum before or tried creative writing, as well all participants with all other levels of experience. The posts will be really fun, and they will use the objects in the museum collection to start to construct our own stories, introducing the the literary genre ‘magical realism’ to help focus our writing. Videos filmed in the museum will introduce each exercise.
Participants will be encouraged to join in, and post their own writing on each Facebook post, and organisers hope to create a really supportive and interactive ‘writing community’ who can give one other positive feedback. They would encourage participants to follow the page now, all ready for the first post which will be posted at the beginning of January 2021. For more information, please also see the attached poster.
Organisers are very aware that not all participants have access to IT etc, or may not want to engage digitally, so they are still aiming to run two physical creative writing workshops in the museum at the end of February. (Restrictions allowing). The numbers for these workshops are likely to be capped to 5 people (max). Felicity will be advertising the dates and how to book for these workshops in early February, so if you know anyone who may be interested, please do reply to this email to let me know their contact details.
