KERPOW (Kernow Power of Women) in association with Hall For Cornwall brings ONE BILLION RISING 2020 to Cornwall as part of a global mass action to end violence against women. Join in locally at this international dance event situated in and around Truro which will celebrate solidarity through action, art, connection, imagination and love.
1 in 3 women across the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. That’s ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS. Every February, we rise – in countries across the world – to show local communities and the world what one billion looks like and shine a light on the rampant impunity of sexual violence and the injustice survivors most often face. We rise through dance to express joy and community and to celebrate that we have not been defeated by this violence. We rise to create a new kind of consciousness – one where violence will be resisted until it is unthinkable.
In 2020, thousands of ONE BILLION RISING events will take place throughout the world – and this is your chance to be a part of the KERPOW/HFC performance event happening in TRURO CITY CENTRE on February 14th at 6pm. See the HfC website for more info.
Who? Dancers, group leaders, dance and community groups and the general public
What are we asking of you? This invitation is to learn a short dance to teach and rehearse with groups you might lead, family, friends and even neighbours. There are a series of workshops to learn the dance/rehearse, which will be performed at the ONE BILLION RISING event on Feb 14th.

We will gather from 5.45pm, ready to start the dance at 6pm. If you want to join in, that’s amazing. If you want to stand in solidarity that’s brilliant too. But everyone help us spread the word. We want as many of us there as possible for this important event.
If you’ve been to a rehearsal and would like a sneaky extra practise of the routine, we will be getting ready and having some last minute run throughs in the Pydar Pop up space from 4pm.
