BTCV are running a series of courses for 14 – 19 year olds who are struggling in school, at risk of exclusion or not in education, employment or training.

The courses, named Freestyle and TYS (Targeted Youth Support), are designed to build confidence, develop teamwork and encourage engagement in learning. Participants will visit sites around Cornwall and carry out tasks such as beach sweeps, pond building, gardening, fencing and habitat restoration. Time will also be spent at Gyllyngdune Gardens in Falmouth helping the gardening staff maintain the gardens in Falmouth, allowing learners to experience a real workplace first hand.

Qualifications can also be gained whilst on the courses, such as NOCN Level 1 Certificate Progression, NOCN Award Level 1 and 2 in Employability, Youth Achievement Awards and NCFE accredited courses in a variety of practical conservation topics and courses in wildlife identification.

Young people are invited to go along for a free taster day on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

Pick ups can also be arranged from Pool at 9am or Redruth station at 9:10 and for travel money can be reimbursed.

If you would like to book someone onto the courses, contact Victoria Smith on 01209 610100 or v.smith@btcv.org.uk
