Emergency Essential Programme (part of BBC Children in Need)

Grants or the purchase of essential items to meet the needs of children in the UK living in severe poverty or hardship.

Applications may be submitted at any time.

The programme provides items for the most basic needs of vulnerable children and young people who may be:

  • Living in severe poverty and suffering deprivation as a result; and/or
  • Affected by additional social issues such as domestic abuse, substance misuse, estrangement, disability or serious illness, mental health or behavioural difficulties, abuse or neglect.

The grant is intended for the purchase of critical household items, and there are various exclusions (eg funeral costs, TVs, school trips, holidays) and it is preferred to purchase them direct, rather than give a cash grant to the family.
