Community businesses across England have until 14th February at 1pm to apply for a learning programme and a grant of up to £10,000.

Open to early-stage community businesses that are planning to grow by increasing their trading and sales, the Community Business Trade Up Programme, run by the School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE) in partnership with Power to Change, is open for applications now. The programme exists to support organisations that are:

  • Locally rooted – focused on improving the local community
  • Accountable to the local community
  • Trading for community benefit and not purely for private profit

The programme is designed to develop the skills, strengths and networks of the participants so they can go on to increase their local impact and income from trading.

The programme starts in June 2019 and there are 80 places for community business leaders across England. The programme is delivered at seven locations across England – applicants may be based in any English County providing they are happy to travel to one of the delivery locations to attend the learning programme (12 days delivered over a 9 month period).

The programme has already supported 130 community business leaders in 2017 and 2018. As a result of taking part in the programme, the first cohort of the programme achieved a typical 92% increase in income from trading.
