This week is Crohn’s and Colitis week, raising awareness of Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, which are the two most common conditions described as Inflammatory Bowel Disease – IBD.
You can find out more about these conditions on the Crohn’s and Colitis website, where there is also information about the Week. The group is using #PurpleFriday and encouraging people to dress up in purple today, to raise awareness and funds.
There is an interesting article on the BBC website, under their Ouch headline for disabilities about living with a stoma.
Crohn’s and Colitis UK have a ‘can’t wait card’ for members to use who need to visit a toilet urgently. The sudden need to use the loo is often associated with IBD, and the card is a free pass to the front of the queue, or a quick way to explain that yes, you do need to use the disabled loo, even though you look ‘fine’. People who might be interested in having one of these can apply to become members of Crohn’s and Colitis UK, and get a card through them.
