The Chinese Lantern Project works with Chinese people living in the UK who find it hard to get the help they need because of language or cultural barriers. The project has recently received lottery funding to expand its operations into Devon and Cornwall, from its original base in the Bristol area.
The project offers a free telephone helpline service to the Chinese community in the South West region, and aims to identify isolated and hidden members of that community, and empower them to integrate into society.
The free helpline number is 0808-802-0012.
Their support is offered in Cantonese, Mandarin and English.
The Helpline covers a vast range of topics regarding benefits; social welfare; family; discrimination; immigration; debt and more.
The Chinese Lantern Project staff are keen to make links with any organisations who know of, or are working with, Chinese individuals or families. Please contact them for more information, or to make referrals.
