Carrick Mind and Restormel Mind are merging to create Cornwall Mind.
From the 1st of January, Carrick Mind became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). Carrick Mind is in the process of merging with Restormel Mind in order to create a new organisation covering the whole of Cornwall. This will be known as Cornwall Mind.
This is happening for a variety of reasons: very small charities struggle for funding, security and the ability to adapt to growing demands. A merger will open opportunities for the combined organisation to provide more services to more people. In addition, the larger grants and funding applications that can be applied for are usually offered on a countywide basis, so an organisation that seeks to attract this level of funding needs to be operating across the entire area. Cornwall Mind will be better placed to expand services and become the voice of people with mental health issues across Cornwall.
This change will hopefully involve expansions to the services currently offered by Carrick and Restormel, which, while broadly similar, will be evened out to give uniformity across Cornwall.
The mission statement for the new Cornwall Mind is:
“We endeavour to prevent those who are vulnerable from developing mental health issues. We provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. We campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding of mental health. We work throughout Cornwall.”
You can find the Carrick Mind newsletter on their website at www.carrickmind.org.uk, where there will be more information about the merger, as it proceeds.
